The clock continues to wind down on the 2024/25 Premier League season, and with an overall record of three and three for the Grubby Balls PL Picks, we’ve got limited time to get in the green. With Matchweek 33 on the horizon, here are three picks for this weekend's fixtures.
Everton win or draw vs Man City (-120)
David Moyes’ Everton have lost just one of their last 12 fixtures. With just a few more matches to play at Goodison Park and relegation all but decided, the home atmosphere combined with the Toffees form will make them stiff competition for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.
Everton put in what was arguably their best performance under David Moyes last weekend, beating third placed Nottingham Forest in added time. Everton’s defence held firm before Abdoulaye Doucoure snatched a 94th minute winner at The City Ground.
While Manchester City’s form is improved, their football remains less free-flowing than it has been in the past, especially against opposition that lines up to defend like Everton will on Saturday.
Everton should frustrate Manchester City, and leave with at least a point if not all three.
Aston Villa to win vs Newcastle (+145)
Aston Villa host Newcastle in the most important match-up of the weekend, with the two sides in the thick of the fight for Champions League qualification. Both sides are in great form, Newcastle are coming off a 5-0 mid-week victory over Crystal Palace, while Aston Villa have won their last four Premier League games.
The question is whether or not Aston Villa can bounce back from the disappointment of bowing out of the Champions League to Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday. Villa were incredibly close to levelling the tie in what would have been a historic comeback, but PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma put in an immense performance, making two key saves against Youri Tielemans and Marcus Rashford to keep Villa out.
Despite the disappointment, the atmosphere at full-time was immense, the crowd applauding the performance of Unai Emery’s side. Aston Villa should only take positives from this performance, and the atmosphere on Saturday should be fantastic. Villa could make a huge statement with a win against Eddie Howe’s team.
Wolves tie or win vs Manchester United (-130)
Wolves are one of the Premier Leagues in-form sides at the moment, winners of their last four, and notably crushing the other underperforming big six side, Tottenham, 4-2 last weekend. With no more real relegation pressure on the side, there’s no reason they’ll slow down this weekend.
Manchester United continue to languish, coming off a crushing defeat to Newcastle where they looked completely devoid of identity. They can’t defend, and they can’t score goals. Wolves could deliver another embarrassing result for Ruben Amorim if they don’t step up their game this weekend.
